I'm watching the Exectuion of Gary Glitter, and as usually, C4 have done us proud with gripping drama.

As someone who only often truly understands and feels things once I have experienced them, this is really getting to me. It's not an "execution" it's an "institutionalised murder", and what it really shows up is how lenient our penal system is. I'm not calling for the Death Penalty by any means, but Life should mean Life, not bail in 6 years.

There are news reports, interviews, and coverage of protests. Even a short word from the coldly named, "Hanging Technician", who reveals he'll have to remain psychologically detached when he pulls the lever.

Gary Glitter is unremorseful and arrogant in this, but the wobble in his lip when the sentence was announced is heartening, and really reached out to me.

It's a war of words and of media, in a country where the politicians decide.

People have complained about this -- indeed Gary Glitter himself is planning to sue (which I think he's right to) -- but I'm interested whether this will make people actually want the death penalty or not. It seems doubtful, as the programme raises some brilliant questions that would be seized upon by an interested RE group or Philosophy class, most with an answer that most of you could tell me straightoff.

Well done C4, it's shock tactics again, but, I applaud you.

Is anybody gonna be able to check this out? Watch the shows or chase up what the clues were or anything?

I'm watching The Noughties - Was That It? and it's interesting but wierd. For a start everyone's talking like they're completely over or that they were brilliant, neither of which are true. It's interesting to see the decade I've known so well be discussed so easily and in such a comedic way, and it's a bit of a blast from the present too.

Headf**k. )

Peter Andre just told Richard Hammond he was a very attractive man.

I think my brain might have broke.

Watching the Michael Jackson Memorial: Live from LA on BBC2, and it's slightly uncomfortable: his silver coffin takes centre stage, literally, and they're all there to see him, but he's not there. The majority of the audience are wearing black, and there are flower arrangements all over the stage, but the fans are applauding and asking for more; the presentation of photos behind the speakers, showing photos of him as musician, charity worker, entertainer, brother, son. It's like a very personal funeral service that's open to thousands and thousands of people who never knew him.

An awkward number of photos show him in the same pose that Jesus wore on the Crucifixion. And that religious 'Godly' element follows into the whole thing: over the course of the hour and a half, it's almost like he's been promoted to Saint, people even saying he will "live forever and ever".

Those who were so certain of his weirdness; his wrongdoings; how quickly they've changed their tune, denouncing him as the washed up oddball singer who'd gone too far, and naming him as humanitarian, a man full of heart, a king. Funny how  you only see the good bits after they're gone.

Speakers have ranged from the founder of Motown, Berry Gordy, to Queen Latifah, to the son and daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. Usher teared up during a heart felt rendition of "Gone Too Soon", and Jermaine Jackson's version of Michael Jackson's favourite song, Charlie Chaplin's "Smile", rightly received a standing ovation. Jennifer Hudson brought an understated strength to the stage, and Britain's Got Talent's Shaheen Jafagoli appearance and performance was a pleasant surprise.

It's very touching - that can't be denied - and I can admit I cried a little myself - all these people telling their little stories of how Michael Jackson used to eat KFC sat on the floor when guests were over, or laugh at silly impressions or visit wards full of injured soldiers and thank them is heartwarming and saddening all at the same time.

As an entertainer, he'll be remembered as a legend; as a friend, so many people have said he was pure of heart, and silly and caring; but as a human, it couldn't be clearer that he was the boy who never grew up.

On the Lurpak "Saturday is breakfast day" advert:

Me:  They've got that wrong.
A:  Yeah, they have. It should be Sunday.
Me:  Yeah, you see, [the things I do on] Saturday is like what my life would be if I didn't have a job. [The stuff I do on] Sunday is what my life would be like if I was unemployed.

I see what I did there.

So, plan tonight is to utilise how crazy my brain was while I was trying to sleep last night, and do my work then. I feel really really tired, but my  brain was just so busy, so maybe it'll work. I dunno. It just needs to be done.

This house has just had a very heated discussion comparing Jade Goody and the people who appear on Jeremy Kyle. My housemates seem only too happy to judge those people by what they're wearing, what they say. "Look at her [whatever], she's disgusting!" and others like it are all regular expressions when Jeremy Kyle is on.

I asked them how they could judge people so harshly based on the way they looked like that.

In a counter-argument, they brought up how I'd judged Jade Goody, something they see as being exactly the same.

I've judged her, because in my personal view, I believe she's milking her problems to get as much money as she can. Anyone who even considers dying on television clearly has no dignity. She's not the only person to ever get cancer, and while it's sad that it's now terminal, this happens to people every day. And they go on about their lives trying to stay happy for the last part of it.

I mean, look at Jane Tomlinson. An inspiration to so many people. She raised £1.5 MILLION for CHARITY, despite having terminal cancer, and was awarded a CBE for her efforts. She was told in 2000 she had a year to live, and yet she remained an active capaigner until she died in 2007.

THAT is someone to be proud of, someone who should have filled the hearts of the country's citizens rather than a reality tv star who sold her soul to get plastic surgery and a perfume deal.

How Jade Goody entered the nation's hearts I don't know. I'm afraid she's not in mine.

Hollyoaks was really good yesterday but I cannot stand this Kris/Ravi/Nancy rubbish. I'm glad Kris is getting some, but I hate who it's with. Suddenly he's friends with Nancy and checking Ravi out? Ew. Nice to see Dom back and him Ste and Justin getting on :)

Michaela is kind of back to her snazzy self too, yay! \o/

What does everyone see in EastEnders anyway? *thinks it pales in comparison*

Hollyoaks was kinda scary tonight. Niall, you are one scary scary guy. Funny how it was always the 'wrong time' to kidnap Jacqui. I would of thought the was never a right time...

And how many people are arguing over that baby now?

And little JP! (Significant Imagery much??) With the baby too!

I can't wait to see how this is going to turn out.
