What really got me in that interview was the final line, the mention of 'nine hysterical women'. That's just brimming with all sorts of things I don't like.

Someone commenting on that same post did a fantastic summary of the interview:

[excerpt of an interview conducted by the animation-themed website AfterElroy]

AE: There's been a lot of controversy about what you've done with Scooby Doo this season. Some fans have been rather upset...

Russell T. Davies: Good, that means people care. Of course, the people who do care, are just nine or so hysterical women out there on the internet.

AE: [cartoon head scratch sound] Uh, wait, let me check my notes: it's good that people care so much, but there aren't that many people out there who actually care so much, so that's good?

RTD: Right. Precisely.

He might be seen as a decent writer, but from what he said, it sounds like he's actually lost the plot.

And yeah, the whole thing just reeks of him being waaaay too successful for his own good. That final line is just the icing on the big headed cake, really, isn't it?

what a dick.

i agree with you when you say that he actually seems to have lost the plot. does he not realise that if it weren't for the bloody fans caring so much and watching the shows he makes he wouldn't actually have any bloody shows?

also what the hell did he mean with this line: You know if we were talking about novels or theater you wouldn’t even be discussing whether something was too strong or too controversial. was he somehow not aware of the number of public book burnings that have occurred in the last 50/100/1000 years? what about D H Lawrence? Ben Johnson? even bloody J K Rowling!

this man annoys me. ( a somehow wierdly appropriate icon i think )

What a dick indeed.

As far as "fan entitlement" goes, I'm glad the fans think so strongly, and obviously without them, there wouldn't be a show, but the thing that's getting me is how much better RTD thinks he is than everyone else, how he's so special he can do anything and not have to care about the consequences because he was right. I could say a whole lot more things here, but they go into expletives, so I won't.

was he somehow not aware of the number of public book burnings that have occurred in the last 50/100/1000 years? what about D H Lawrence? Ben Johnson? even bloody J K Rowling!

Well, this is RTD. The only stuff that's good enough for His Royal Prickness to read is that which he writes himself, so I'm sure he hasn't known much about them either. I'm not a lit student by any means, but what about A Clockwork Orange? or Equus? or Color Me Purple? Those are just a few books people looked at in school, and they are crazy contoversial.

Yeah, the man annoys me too. I really really don't like him any more. And that's not gonna change now.
