Well, turns out LJ's gonna be 10 years old soon. How crazy is that? To celebrate the occasion, the lj staff are going to publish a book all about LJ. And not the boring bits. The bits all about LJ-ers - comms, users, jokes, memes, reports, everything. Those posts that make you think, laugh and cry. Those comments that start off friendships, relationships, marriages. It's kind of beautiful in a way, seeing what LJ means to all these people.

I'm gutted I didn't know about it before some of the deadlines were up, but it's still worth looking at anyway. The comm: [livejournal.com profile] lj_turns10

And these are some of my favourites already.

- Story of a lifetime, on one day.
- The "Stop Fucking Him" post.
- Best of.... Metaquotes
- a very melancholy entry - [livejournal.com profile] lie2me 's last journal entry.
- about [livejournal.com profile] adayinmylife 's "celebrity couple" - Brush your teeth and fall in love.

What are your favourite posts/comms/entries?

I *just* got a notification from LJ that was posted at 3.38pm today.

What kind of fail is this, LJ?

[Error: unknown template qotd] This is a bit embarrassing actually.

I didn't find LJ through a friend or another website, or even from "stumbling" upon it.

No. I found LJ because of David Tennant. TRUE STORY.

I'd watched Doomsday, and loved it. And I wanted something more. Like you feel when you watch something without fandom? A bit empty and anti-climactic, and not as bothered about who got together than you feel you ought to (even though I LOVED Ten/Rose *is shamed*). Well I had that. I also had a bit of a crush on Ten.

So I searched google for "David Tennant". The first thing that came up was [livejournal.com profile] tennant_love . I could see some of the posts, but I wanted to comment. So I sighed and put my details into another thing on the internet. I lurked around [livejournal.com profile] tennant_love  for some time, taking in how this thing worked, not realising what else there was on LJ. Then I found the pr0n. I read several Ten/Rose fics - which I still remember - and loved them *shudder* Then somehow (I have NO IDEA how) I found Five/Turlough. *shrug* That's when it got really bad ;P

That also gives me a good an around about date from when I joined. About three days after Doomsday aired.  Must have been a repeat.

I can now mark my journal entries as containing No Adult Content, Adult Concepts or Explicit Adult Content. I don't think any of my posts are explicit, but I'll go through them all the same.

It's a nice change from the whole Big Brother "What We Say Should Go And We Say No to Pr0n", and in an attempt to find out more, I found this:

2007: Something We Didn't Get Right
In our attempt to implement a zero tolerance policy towards content that supports child abuse, pedophilia, or sexual violence, we suspended about 500 journals in May of 2007 that should not have been taken down. We wish it hadn't happened at all, and we cannot say we're sorry enough. However, we did immediately realize our mistake, and all of the journals that did not break our TOS were restored as quickly as possible. We really screwed up, and when that happens, we've learned the best thing to do is just admit it and try to fix the problem to the best of our abilities.

What a breath of fresh air for someone to admit they were wrong, and better yet, to apologise :)  *gold star for TPTB @ LJ Towers*

When I was doing my exams, I couldn't get off LJ. Now I've all the time in the world on my hands (it seems) I can't keep it up. Spose that's the nature of pontificating.
