Day 02: Your Favourite Episode
Yet AGAIN I started trying to be all encompassing and just failed, MISERABLY FAILED. I starting listing all my favourite episodes, and it ended up pretty being ALL of the episodes. This is the second time I've tried really really hard to isolate my favouritest thing about this show and ended up including JUST TOO MUCH. It is only the second day. Apparently I love Doctor Who. A LOT. Who knew? lulz.
The point is that my favourite episode has always moved around (if I've ever had just one) - I tend to judge an episode on the ones around it, so comparing inter-series favourites doesn't quite work. I might pick my favourites out of each series and then go from there.
The first time I got into Fandom and the reason I'm here now, was because I got swallowed up like many other teenage girls in Ten/Rose. Via the magic of the Big Finish Audio The Kingmaker (my favourite audio *without doubt*) I think, I went all classic!Who, which acted as a sort of Rosefen antedote, and I'm happy to say that any emotional attachment I once had to Rose and Ten has disappeared without trace.
NOW I TALK ABOUT ZEE MOFFAT EPS YEEEEESSSS
... I like ALL of them. The Eleventh Hour was so damn refreshing after Rusty made it all about emoemoemo and setting fire to the moon or something, and I love how resourceful Eleven was, even if he was (to begin with) a bit too much like Ten for my liking. The companion-lite episode was pretty cool too - I didn't expect it to be all that much and yet I watched The Lodger again only a few weeks ago and it was still brilliant. Nice to see it's not just a one-off, either ;P
I HAVE SEEN THE BIG BANG ABOUT A THOUSAND AND A MILLION TIMES AND I AM A BIT IN LOVE WITH IT. No, not really, but I have watched it A LOT. It's just amazing. In my review, I realised that this finale was one that actually felt like it was wrapping up a story rather than just EXPLODING in a lot of ways, and it's still soooooo good, ohmagud. I was also glad to see Moff do a happy Christmas Special, for once. Or a least one with a positive spin, I suppose. Some of the bits were just beautiful - that song haunted my mind for days, and my the quote I listed as my favourite comes from A Christmas Carol.
Finally finally we move onto this series. I'd say it was too early to judge since we're not even up to ep 4 yet, but you know what, I'm GOING TO JUDGE. You know why? Because The Impossible Astronaut was THE EPITOMY of Doctor Who. Matt was PERFECT as a timey wimey travelsome Doctor, River became more than just "spoilers" but an ACTUAL CHARACTER and OT4 OMG; Karen ACTED HER LITTLE SOCKS OFF and it confused and dazzled and entertained and fucking FREAKED OUT everything all at the same time... Oh, just... good writing, good plotting, good acting. Unff.
