Jade Goody.

This house has just had a very heated discussion comparing Jade Goody and the people who appear on Jeremy Kyle. My housemates seem only too happy to judge those people by what they're wearing, what they say. "Look at her [whatever], she's disgusting!" and others like it are all regular expressions when Jeremy Kyle is on.

I asked them how they could judge people so harshly based on the way they looked like that.

In a counter-argument, they brought up how I'd judged Jade Goody, something they see as being exactly the same.

I've judged her, because in my personal view, I believe she's milking her problems to get as much money as she can. Anyone who even considers dying on television clearly has no dignity. She's not the only person to ever get cancer, and while it's sad that it's now terminal, this happens to people every day. And they go on about their lives trying to stay happy for the last part of it.

I mean, look at Jane Tomlinson. An inspiration to so many people. She raised £1.5 MILLION for CHARITY, despite having terminal cancer, and was awarded a CBE for her efforts. She was told in 2000 she had a year to live, and yet she remained an active capaigner until she died in 2007.

THAT is someone to be proud of, someone who should have filled the hearts of the country's citizens rather than a reality tv star who sold her soul to get plastic surgery and a perfume deal.

How Jade Goody entered the nation's hearts I don't know. I'm afraid she's not in mine.

H-hi! -waves- Friend from F!S here. (kind of just dropping by to say hello ^^')

Lol my God Jeremy Kyle, I used to watch that show religiously when I got home from school. But yeah I think it's fair to judge the people only after they've opened they're mouths.

That's incredible about Jane Tomlinson, and I bet there's very little people who even know who she is, and it makes me feel sick.

(In the case of Jade Goody, I'm pretty sure she's doing it to get money for her kids when she passes on, so I can let it slide. But idk the media wants to record every little detail of it augh. At least its so high profile that there's been a large increase of people going for check-ups?)

I've only just recently got into Jeremy Kyle and even then I miss a lot of it because of lectures, but I like watching him, as a person, do his magic. It's interesting to see what he does to get people talking or to break up arguments or to even things out, even if the conclusions of all arguments does seem to be "GET A JOB!" I agree the people on there aren't beauty pageant contestants, but that doesn't really mean anything. I've learned that first impressions are important but in other ways they are meaningless, and I try to be open-minded. Clearly, my housemates don't.

I thought a lot of people knew about Jane Tomlinson, after all, she deserves it. And yet I find myself having to explain who she is :(

Thanks for your diplomatic view on this :) It seems she's caused a lot of arguments about all sorts of things, and I guess I'm not really going to ever be a fan of hers since I find it difficult to support stupidity, whether it's genuine or put on, but she has got more people going for check-ups, so I guess that's a good thing, especially when it's all a little 'taboo'...

Sorry it's been so long since I got round to commenting, I wanted to make sure I was completely coherent before I replied :)

I have never heard of any of these people, so probably shouldn't comment, but

First of all, wait, is someone actually going to broadcast this woman dying?

And, yeah, judging someone based on their behaviour =/= equal judging someone based on their appearance. Judging on behaviour still has its flaws sometimes, but judging on looks is just shallow and bitchy.

That was a possibility yes, although I'm not sure it's likely anymore. But that fact that she was considering it... well, I don't know what to think. Do you watch House? In one episode House talks about dying with dignity. He says that's impossible. You can live with dignity, but not die with it. I think that's significant with this case. It does make me wonder what the world is coming to though.

And, yeah, judging someone based on their behaviour =/= equal judging someone based on their appearance. According to my housemates, it *is* the same, but then they truly believed that vaseline was made out of whale fat. The mind, as they say, boggles.

I understand that it's not really right to judge people I don't know, but if you are gonna judge (which most people do), I figure it's better to judge behaviour than looks. *sigh*
